In drive motors (especially for Electric Vehicles and high-performance industrial applications), the insulation system is the “lifeline” that ensures reliability under high voltage, high speed, and rapid temperature fluctuations. These materials are categorized into five main types:

This is the “heart” of the motor, preventing short circuits between turns or between the coil and the ground.
Magnet Wire (Enamelled Wire): Drive motors (especially Hairpin motors) typically use PAI (Polyamide-imide) or PEI (Polyesterimide) coated wires. For 800V high-voltage systems, Corona-resistant enamelled wire is used to withstand high-frequency overvoltage pulses.
Phase-to-Phase Insulation: Used at the stator ends to isolate different phases. Common materials include NMN (Nomex/Polyester film/Nomex) or PI (Polyimide) films.
NMN & NHN Composite insulation paper
Placed inside the stator core slots, it acts as the primary insulation between the coils and the metal core.
Composite Insulation Paper: The mainstream solutions are NHN or NMN, combining the thermal toughness of Nomex® aramid paper with the high dielectric strength of PI/PET films.
These require extreme mechanical strength and are usually made from laminated sheets.
Slot Wedge: Used to seal the slot and secure the winding. Common materials include FR4 Epoxy Laminates, G10/G11 High-temperature Laminates, or Magnetic Slot Wedges (to improve efficiency).
Insulation Spacers/Brackets: Used for lead wire support, typically machined from FR4 Epoxy sheets because they do not deform under high centrifugal forces.

Insulation Sleevings: Protects outgoing leads, often made of Silicone Rubber Fiberglass Sleeving.
Terminal Blocks/Boxes: Made of BMC (Bulk Molding Compound) or high-grade FR4 Epoxy sheets.
